When having to deal the antics of management utilizing Unethical tactics, When it come to actual Ethics in the Workplace I choose to use Artistic Satire to Battle Toxic Environments

The journey began with the short film Love Will Save the World, an artistic exploration of depression through imaginative storytelling. At the time, I didn't realize this project would serve as a prelude to an even more personal narrative. Shortly after its completion, I found myself deeply entrenched in workplace challenges at Willy’s Mexican Grill, particularly Store 15. This experience inspired Tough Cooks, a satirical screenplay series born directly out of my real-world interactions and observations.
Addressing ethics in the workplace can be challenging, particularly within environments entrenched in toxic behaviors and dysfunctional communication. Through my experiences, both personal and professional, I've discovered that artistic satire can be a powerful and effective method for exposing and combating these negative dynamics.
In Tough Cooks, I used satire and humor as weapons against a culture rife with manipulation, sabotage, and questionable ethics. Characters and scenarios directly mirrored my actual experiences, such as being targeted by management and navigating interpersonal conflicts. One illustrative moment captured artistically includes an image of a colleague humorously depicted with the caption, "Help me HR, you're my only hope," reflecting the desperation felt by employees who seek fairness in environments that rarely offer it.
However, satire alone wasn't enough—I wanted actionable solutions and genuine community-building. Thus, I began creating and posting memos on our workplace bulletin board. These memos served dual purposes: they improved communication transparency and celebrated my colleagues’ contributions. By acknowledging their efforts publicly, I aimed to foster solidarity and positivity, counteracting the toxic behaviors rampant within the workplace.
These memos also found their way into Tough Cooks, acting as a narrative device symbolizing resilience and empathy amid chaos. They represented my conviction that ethics isn't just about recognizing wrongs but also actively promoting and nurturing a supportive environment.
The blend of real-world actions and creative satire proved impactful. My colleagues felt seen and valued, and through artistic expression, we could collectively confront issues otherwise difficult to address directly. Art, humor, and communication became intertwined tools for advocating change.
Reflecting on this journey, I've recognized that combating workplace toxicity isn't merely a matter of policy or procedure—it’s also a cultural and emotional challenge. Artistic satire, combined with genuine acts of empathy and solidarity, can reshape workplace ethics, empowering individuals to speak up and inspiring collective improvement.
Ultimately, the creative paths of Love Will Save the World and Tough Cooks reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of storytelling. Through art, we don't merely reflect our realities—we can actively change them.
I want something I wrote to my coworkers back in February Monthly monthly report to help readers get where I’m coming from:
This month reinforced the importance of teamwork, communication, and self-confidence in the workplace. Employees who felt left out of decision-making or uninformed about operations faced unnecessary challenges that could have been prevented with open and transparent communication.
A Message from the Writer: Antonio D. – Store 15
“If you would like recognition for your work or want better communication between Store 15 and Store 24/Airport, I welcome your input and appreciate you as I do all my coworkers who are dedicated to the Willy’s team.”
“I started writing these reports to address the communication issues that have affected us since last June. I am committed to helping anyone who wants to prove that they are not just replaceable hourly workers but skilled culinary artists and valued teammates who deserve recognition.”
“Believe in yourself, your team, and your work ethic. If you put in the effort, no one above or below your position can determine your worth.”
